An Alabama man accused of killing a man outside a Walmart in Rhode Island during the weekend appeared in court on Monday.
Sean Slaughter, 56, was arraigned on multiple charges, including murder.
Providence police said Slaughter is accused of shooting and killing 51-year-old Eric Campbell, also of Alabama.
The fatal shooting happened at the Walmart on Silver Spring Street Saturday morning.
Slaughter, who said he was hard of hearing, appeared in district court and was seen shaking his head multiple times in court.
Officers said they arrived at the scene around 1 a.m. Saturday and found a large box truck parked near the front doors.
When they went inside they found Campbell suffering from a gunshot wound.
Police said the two men were there to work on floors when they got into a physical altercation.
That is when police said Slaughter pulled out a gun and fired at Campbell.
Slaughter was still at the scene and taken into custody. Campbell was transported to the Rhode Island hospital where he died.
“Count two, they allege carrying without a license, a pistol, a 380 revolver, “ said the judge. “Count three alleges discharge of a firearm, committing a crime of violence resulting in a death of Eric Campbell.”
Slaughter was charged with murder, possession of a gun without a license, and possession of a gun while committing a crime of violence.
He is being held without bail with another court appearance scheduled for next week.
