Amarillo City Council schedules special meeting to discuss potential charter amendments

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) —
Amarillo City Council has scheduled a special meeting to discuss and review potential amendments to the city charter for the November election.

The special meeting is on Friday, Aug. 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in council chambers in Room 302 of city hall.
Some of the items being considered for the city charter include:
- Staggered terms
- Three-year terms
- Four years terms
- Seven member council
- Council-appointed city attorney
The charter has been amended nine times. The last time was in 2020. The only change was the frequency of city council meetings.
