The Clovis Police Department is moving forward with multiple felony charges on a man who was employed as an officer in the department prior to initial investigations.
The former Clovis police officer, Frank Careri, is charged with the following: trafficking a controlled substance, harboring or aiding a felon, accessory to residential burglary, conspiracy to residential burglary, and violation of confidential information requirements by public officers.
While investigating a burglary in February of 2023, Clovis Police Department interviewed a woman who told investigators Careri was providing her with information and drugs in exchange for nude pictures.
This prompted a complaint to be filed and an investigation into the allegations against Careri.
Shortly after the investigation had started, Careri resigned his position as a police officer with the City of Clovis.
The Clovis PD then contacted District Attorney Quentin Ray to review the information that was available for potential charges.
After reviewing that information, D.A. Ray determined having an additional jurisdiction to help with the review and investigation would be beneficial.
The case was then referred to the 10th Judicial District for review and Special Prosecutor Andrea Reeb was assigned the review and prosecution should charges be filed.
The female involved in the initial investigation was then interviewed further by an investigator with the 10th Judicial District Attorney's Office.
Then, together with the D.A.'s office, the Clovis PD made a decision to move forward with the charges against Frank Careri.
Trafficking a controlled substance is a 2nd-degree felony, harboring or aiding a felon is a 4th-degree felony, accessory to residential burglary is a 4th-degree felony, and violation of the confidential information requirements by public officers, a misdemeanor.
