The high school sports season for the 2023-24 school year ended Wednesday as the Canyon High School baseball team had its hopes of a state championship dashed in the UIL 4A state semi-finals.

Canyon lost 3-1 to Texarkana Liberty-Eylau, finishing a fantastic season at 30-9-1.

Canyon scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead, but the Leopards came back with three runs in in the top of the third inning.

Canyon left the bases loaded in that first inning and never really threatened to score after that.

The Eagles bring home bronze medals.

It was the swan song for head coach John Doan who retires after 21 seasons as CHS head coach. Longtime assistant Wade Williams also retiring. Both well respected coaches and teachers.
