Amarillo City Council schedules special meeting to discuss potential charter amendments

Amarillo City Council has scheduled a special meeting to discuss and review potential amendments to the city charter for the November election.

The special meeting is on Friday, Aug. 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in council chambers in Room 302 of city hall.

Some of the items being considered for the city charter include:

  • Staggered terms
  • Three-year terms
  • Four years terms
  • Seven member council
  • Council-appointed city attorney

The charter has been amended nine times. The last time was in 2020. The only change was the frequency of city council meetings.

The special meeting is open to the public and will be broadcast online on the city council meetings page.
