A former Clovis police officer faces multiple felony charges.

Frank Careri is charged with trafficking a controlled substance, harboring or aiding a felon, accessory to residential burglary, conspiracy to residential burglary, and violation of confidential information requirements by public officers.

An arrest warrant was issued Friday.

“He is in Hawaii now,” said Andrea Reeb, a special prosecutor appointed to the case. He has been given “two weeks to turn himself in or we will extradite him” to New Mexico.

While investigating a burglary in February 2023, the Clovis Police Department interviewed a woman who told investigators Careri was providing her with information and drugs in exchange for nude pictures.

This prompted a complaint to be filed and an investigation into the allegations against Careri.

Shortly after the investigation began, Careri resigned.

Clovis PD contacted District Attorney Quentin Ray who determined having an additional jurisdiction to help with the review and investigation would be beneficial.

The case was referred to the 10th Judicial District for review. Reeb was assigned the review and prosecution should charges be filed.

NOTE: Reeb is now a New Mexico state representative.

Trafficking a controlled substance is a 2nd-degree felony, harboring or aiding a felon is a 4th-degree felony, accessory to residential burglary is a 4th-degree felony, and violation of the confidential information requirements by public officers, a misdemeanor.
