A man from Clovis was sentenced to two years for an assault on a jail that happened on February 2, 2022.

According to a Media Alert sent by the Ninth Judicial District Attorney's Office, Damon Martinez, 41, was one of "several inmates" involved in an incident at the Curry County Detention Center where inmates broke off a heavy-duty towel rack and used it to create a basketball-sized hole through the cinderblock that led to an air vent, providing roof accessibility.

Once the hole was discovered concrete was used to refill it.

The damage totaled to $900. The other inmates involved were also charged and eventually pleaded guilty.
